Not
getting the sales you think you deserve? There could
be many reasons.
-
Does your competition offer more or better service at their
site? Does their site have features like wish lists and address
books?
-
Does your site work reliably and quickly? Slow-loading pages
and broken shopping carts are two of the top reasons people
leave a site. The cause could be your site, or the servers
hosting your site.
-
Are you prices much higher than the competition? If they are,
you'll need to provide some other compelling reason for people
to buy from you... much better service, faster shipping, etc.
-
Is your site pleasing to look at and easy to use? Is it easy
to find what you’re looking for?
-
Are there enough people visiting your site? If they can’t
find you they can’t buy from you.
-
Do customers feel safe at your site? Do you have an SSL certificate?
Do you provide shipping costs up front? Do you provide a toll-free
number for people to call if they run into a problem during
the checkout process?
-
Could you be selling more products per order by suggesting
additional purchases (e.g., suggesting compatible ink or paper
with the purchase of a printer)?
- If
your product could be damaged in shipping, do you offer insurance?
Did
you know -- The information customers need in order to make
a purchase decision on the web depends in part on the product
being sold. At one end of the continuum there are
books, which can be sold with an ISBN and a statement of the
condition of the book, and printer paper, which can be sold
with a set of product specifications (# sheets, brightness,
weight). At the other end of the extreme are antiques and
original artwork, which will require several close-up photos.
Some products, such as real estate and automobiles, can benefit
from virtual tours. Many products fit somewhere in the middle.
Providing the right information to customers is critical to
your sales.
