About Me

On the web or not, it’s important to have a unique value proposition. This distinguishes you from your competition by describing what you offer (product and service), to whom, and at what price. If you're not clear why people should buy from you, they might not be either.

There are four primary ways that people can find your site, using all of them wisely can increase site traffic:

  • Word of mouth (or email) – make it easy for people to send information like product details or an article from your site to someone else.
  • From a search engine like Google or Lycos. Search engine optimization. It used to be that people could fill up the KEYWORD section in their html pages to guarantee good placement in search engines. Due to abuse, search engines are refining their methods and we must adapt.
  • From a general directory like Yahoo! or specialized directories such as those focused on industries or professions.
  • From referral links on other sites.
A word on advertising -- including advertising for others on your site can be a good way to generate additional revenues, but don’t do it at the expense of your core business. Cluttering a site with unrelated advertising makes the visitor feel like they’re being used, not catered to. Some targeted advertising, such as that provided by Google, is actually welcomed by visitors.
